Team Singapore wraps up ASEAN Para Games with 13 golds — and a lot of heart
The 13th ASEAN Para Games (Thailand 2025) may have played out across seven days, but for Team Singapore, it read like a tightly edited story arc: an early spark, a mid-Games surge, and a final-day punctuation mark in gold.
Team Singapore ended the campaign with an official tally of 13 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze.
Day 1 gave Singapore its first lift — and it came fast. Para cyclist Sebastian Adrian Tan Yan Zhi powered to Singapore’s first gold of the Games in the Mixed Individual Time Trial T1–T2, clocking 31:40.485.
Later, tenpin bowler Goh Jong Theng Kelvin delivered the second gold in Men’s Singles TPB1 with a score of 804.
This early medal “base” was strengthened by swimmers in the pool: Toh Wei Soong opened his account with a silver in Men’s 400m Freestyle S7 (5:22.87), while Danielle Moi Yan Ting picked up a silver in Women’s 100m Butterfly S14 (1:14.83).
Then came the surge. From Day 2 onward, Singapore’s results began to spread across disciplines.
- In athletics, Muhammad Diroy Bin Noordin took gold in Men’s Shot Put F40, throwing 8.36m — and the way SDSC framed it says it all: a “three-peat victory”.
- Sebastian Tan returned to the podium with bronze in the Mixed Road Race T1–T2 (1:20:22).
- In para table tennis, Muhammad Dinie Asyraf Bin Huzaini secured joint bronze in Men’s Singles Class 3.
Boccia became one of the loudest chapters of the Games for Singapore — a blend of composure, precision, and nerves of titanium. By Day Three, seven gold medals were in the bag.
At the sharp end of the competition schedule, you could see how thin the margins were:
- Nur Syahidah Binte Alim reached the Gold Medal Match in para archery’s Women’s Individual event, but fell 142–138 to Indonesia — earning silver in a match that came down to just four points.
- In shooting, Goh Rui Si Theresa and Chan Han Siong Daniel not only won individual golds, they also reached the Mixed P6 – Team 10m Air Pistol SH1 Gold Medal Match, where Thailand edged Singapore 17–13 — silver for TeamSG.
Then came the golden full stop on the last day of the Games.
Singapore’s last gold came in Boccia BC3 Mixed Pair, won by Nurulasyiqah Binte Mohammad Taha and Gan Kai Hong Aloysius, described in a SNPC Facebook post as a “fitting golden finish”.
Team Singapore also added a final-day bronze in Tenpin Bowling – Doubles TPB9 + TPB9, thanks to Loo Chee Wai (Vincent) and Low Chang Hong.
This year, wheelchair rugby was contested as a demonstration sport. Even though it was Team Singapore’s first ASEAN Para Games outing in the sport, our athletes came away with silver. However, as wheelchair rugby was a demonstration sport, it was not part of the medal tally.
At the end of Thailand 2025, Team Singapore’s score rang loud and proud: 13 gold, 7 silver, 9 bronze.
