Thoughts from that Friday afternoon meeting

Imagine slipping underwater and feeling gravity finally switch off. You’re supported by the water—and by the three divers around you, who have only your safety and comfort in mind. Within the medium of water, you suddenly have total freedom of movement—literally 360 degrees, all around you.

Welcome to the world of adaptive diving.

On 10 April 2026, Diveheart was in town for the ADEX Dive Show, and I took the opportunity to introduce the Ambassador of Diveheart Malaysia, Syed Abd Rahman, and Ernest Teo, the Diveheart Borneo Lead Instructor, to the Enabling Village.

While there, they met with Chong Kwek Bin (Technology Analyst at SG Enable) and Joanne Toh (docent tour guide from Ludus Lab). They learnt about Singapore’s disability landscape, then shared about scuba diving for PWDs. They then toured Tech Able and the Little Splashes pool (where else!).

That afternoon, I learnt more about adaptive diving and what it truly involved. Never mind the technicalities of the sport - any trained divemaster trained in adaptive diving could impart the knowledge and explain the mechanics. What struck me more was how Syed and Ernest eagerly shared the achievements of past students - not to boast or inspire but to show what was possible.

All in all, it was a good afternoon.

Many thanks to Kwek Bin and Joanne for their warm hospitality. It was a good chat—and hopefully the start of something.

Because if adaptive diving teaches us anything, it’s this: the moment gravity switches off, so do a lot of the limits we assume are fixed. Diveheart’s line says it best—imagine the possibilities. Maybe this is how new dreams begin: one idea, one meeting, one “why not?” at a time.

Watch this space.
