A team from the National University of Singapore has launched “AiSee”, an AI-powered assistive headset designed to help people with vision loss commute and shop more independently.
It can alert users when their bus ride is arriving by tracking the user's location using GPS, and obtaining the vehicle's location from LTA's (Land Transport Authority's) bus arrival timings. A built-in camera monitors the road and informs the user with an audio alert when their ride arrives.
The device also helps on grocery runs by identifying the colours/sizes/prices/etc of items in the store via voice questions. There is also scope for usage by insighted individuals by having it be used in curated tours - this area of usage is currently being tested at the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
