Dysphagia-Friendly Dining Comes to Mainstream Restaurants in Singapore

Live read-aloud available

A new pilot is bringing dysphagia-friendly dining into restaurants in Singapore, so people with swallowing difficulties (including stroke survivors and those living with conditions like Parkinson’s disease or dementia) can eat out more safely and enjoyably with their families.

The initiative is led by Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) in partnership with Imperial Treasure (Great World City) and 5 Senses Café & Restaurant, under SUSS’ Dignity Dining: Age Better community engagement series. The two-day trial saw caregivers and loved ones to experience how modified-texture meals and safe-swallowing practices can be integrated into restaurant menus without compromising presentation or dining standards.

SUSS has been co-developing these options since November 2025 with The Project Futurus (Hong Kong social enterprise) and aligns with national efforts such as MOH’s EatSafe SG initiative.
